Games

There are many ways to connect with an autistic person. We like to use games or being outside.  Play dough: great in many ways. You can use the floor, the table, or be outside.  Arts and crafts: we print a lot of coloring pages, learning pages, pages to cut, etc. the kids love it Finger paint: some don’t like their hands to be messy. That’s ok. Use a brush.  Water balloons Have them help sort laundry, help prepare a meal, or simple things like this.

Kit

A lot can include anything. Here are some of what we keep on ours: Batteries, flashlights, change of clothes, water, non-perishable foods, diapers, wipes, toilet paper, soap, lists of medications and health problems, first aid kit, blankets, phone chargers, toothbrushes and toothpaste, pain relievers, pads, tampons, tools, personal hygiene things, tissues, trash bags, and more.

Seats

My kiddos have trouble sitting still. Here are some things I’ve read that helps. I have not tried any of these things Pool noodle seat, beach ball, foot roller, bean bag chair, bouncy ball

Emergency preparedness

Be informed. We use this all the time. We keep up with everything.  Make a plan. Have something that is written down. We have escape plans and such. For everything. Even things we’ve never had where we are at.  Build a kit. We have a survival kit that we keep in our car. It has stuff like flashlights, changes of clothes, water, batteries, etc.
The boys learned that if they let their balloons go they float. And never come back.  I kept telling them not to let them go I tell them this every time they get a balloon  They never listen  So today I let them take their balloons outside and told them if they let them go they will be gone forever.  They didn’t believe me until they let them go
